Tracing Ancestry, Researchers Produce a Genetic Atlas of Human Mixing Events“Researchers have found genetic evidence for hundreds of examples of the large-scale mixing of human populations in the past 4,000 years.” – see also: A Genetic Atlas of Human Admixture History“We used this to produce an atlas of worldwide human admixture history, constructed by using genetic data alone and encompassing over 100 events occurring over the past 4000 years. We identified events whose dates and participants suggest they describe genetic impacts of the Mongol empire, Arab slave trade, Bantu expansion, first millennium CE migrations in Eastern Europe, and European colonialism, as well as unrecorded events, revealing admixture to be an almost universal force shaping human populations.” – see also: A genetic atlas of human admixture history. – see also from dienekes: Human admixture common in human history (Hellenthal et al. 2014).

Earliest footprints outside Africa discovered in Norfolk“Scientists have discovered the earliest evidence of human footprints outside of Africa, on the Norfolk Coast in the East of England. Genetic origins of high-altitude adaptations in Tibetans“Genetic adaptations for life at high elevations found in residents of the Tibetan plateau likely originated around 30,000 years ago in peoples related to contemporary Sherpa. These genes were passed on to more recent migrants from lower elevations via population mixing, and then amplified by natural selection in the modern Tibetan gene pool, according to a new study.” – see also: Admixture facilitates genetic adaptations to high altitude in Tibet – see also: A novel mechanism for getting high – from greg cochran. – see also: Tibetan mastiffs equally adapted to high altitudes of Tibet.

Immediate replacement of fishing with dairying by the earliest farmers of the northeast Atlantic archipelagos [i.e. british isles] – “These new findings…unequivocally confirm rejection of marine resources by early farmers coinciding with the adoption of intensive dairy farming. This pattern of Neolithization contrasts markedly to that occurring contemporaneously in the Baltic, suggesting that geographically distinct ecological and cultural influences dictated the evolution of subsistence practices at this critical phase of European prehistory.”

The booms and busts of Neolithic Europe (and their potential impact on our DNA)“most of the interactions between the genetically Near Eastern-like Neolithic farmers and indigenous European hunter-gatherers, including mixing, in all likelihood took place on the peripheries of the farming societies. If so, then perhaps every time there was a bust, it was the relatively more admixed, or even more hunter-gatherer-like, farmer groups from the peripheries that took advantage of the situation and moved in to grab some land in the depopulated regions? In other words, this might have been the process which led to the well-documented reemergence of hunter-gatherer-derived ancestry in the heart of Europe after the early Neolithic.” – @eurogenes.

Black Death Left a Mark on Human Genome“Genetically, the Rroma are still quite similar to the northwestern Indians, even though they have lived side by side with the Romanians for a millennium, the team found. But there were 20 genes in the Rroma and the Romanians that had changes that were not seen in the Indians’ versions of those genes, Netea and his colleagues report online today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Study demonstrates evolutionary ‘fitness’ not the most important determinant of success“By modelling populations over long timescales, the study showed that the ‘fitness’ of their traits was not the most important determinant of success. Instead, the most genetically available mutations dominated the changes in traits. The researchers found that the ‘fittest’ simply did not have time to be found, or to fix in the population over evolutionary timescales. The findings suggest that life on Earth today may not have come about by ‘survival of the fittest’, but rather by the ‘arrival of the frequent’.”

Burakumin, Paekchong, and Cagots“Human evolution is a logarithmic curve where most of the interesting changes have happened since the advent of farming and complex societies. *Homo sapiens* was not a culmination but rather a beginning…of gene-culture co-evolution. Meritocracy doesn’t work. It’s in the Left’s interest to recognise this.“The Son Also Rises, a study of social mobility by Gregory Clark, will surprise and also alarm some people. He notes, by using surname patterns, that mobility is minimal in all societies where the data is available. Even, for example, in the Nordic paradise of Sweden. He says: ‘In all societies, what seems to matter is just who your parents are. At the extreme, we see in modern Sweden an extensive system of public education and social support. Yet underlying mobility rates are no higher in modern Sweden than in pre-industrial Sweden or medieval England.’ He also notes that even in revolutionary societies, such as in Communist China, people with aristocratic surnames also turn up at the top, showing that once again Darwin trumps Marx.” – from ed west. – see also: Everyone likes the idea of equal opportunity. Males and females differ in specific brain structures“Reviewing over 20 years of neuroscience research into sex differences in brain structure, researchers have conducted the first meta-analysis of the evidence. The team performed a quantitative review of the brain imaging literature testing overall sex differences in total and regional brain volumes. They found that males on average have larger total brain volumes than women (by 8 to 13 percent). Looking more closely, the researchers found differences in volume between the sexes were located in several regions. These included parts of the limbic system, and the language system.”

Male infanticide leads to social monogamy in primates“The origin of social monogamy in primates is best explained by long lactation periods caused by altriciality, making primate infants particularly vulnerable to infanticidal males. These phylogenetic analyses support a key role for infanticide in the social evolution of primates, and potentially, humans.” – h/t heartiste!

  1. Hey, thanks for linking me. Also Re: “How much do sex differences matter in sports?” This really came home to me when I began studying a martial art full of throws and take downs several years ago. There is a double standard in the dojo, possibly in every dojo but in mine for sure that says a male can never throw a female as hard as she can throw him. It takes far less force to hurt the female participants and consequently they never see what a strong male attacker is actually capable of. If they did, I often wonder if they’d ever return.

  2. I almost want to say don’t get me started on the sexual orientation being genetic thing.

I think I may have said enough on that already. But let me say it again, for those who may have missed it: ;)

“Actually @NickCohen4, (male) homosexuality *is* partly genetic, but weakly. Twins usually discordant”

“But you’re right, ‘Gays can’t help being gay’ does have ‘a pathetic ring.’ Though it is true.”

“But the incredible irony is that homophobia is also heritable (54%), much more so that homosexuality”

“Homophobes were far more ‘born that way’ than homosexuals themselves!”

“But modern progressive thought allows that ONLY sexual orientation can be ‘inborn.’ And it’s not even true!”

“Theoretically, a pathogenic source for homosexuality means that one day a vaccine may be developed. Then what?”

Further, on this supposed isolation of genetic links to homosexuality, I’ll already call bullsh*t. Twin registry studies already establish that the heritability of homosexuality is really low. Regardless of the precise value (which is essentially established by comparing the concordance rate between MZ and DZ twins; the problem is, it’s low for both), identical twins are discordant over 75% of the time. So that seriously bounds any potential genetic finding, especially with a sample size of only 400.

GWAS studies have had a hard time pinning down any genes with certain for most any behavioral trait, even for samples much larger than that. Am I to believe they’ve found a solid hit, with the above considered? Right…

They’ve got a false positive at best. But this is making news because they want to find such genes, because it will reinforce the “born that way” narrative. But, see above on that.

Now, I know you know this, and I really shouldn’t even have to say it, but I don’t have any problems with gays (for that matter, neither does Greg Cochran, I’m sure). My interest here is purely scientific.

  3. Dude, again with the ”vaccine against homossexuality”??
Interesting, will go to ”cure” homo’pathology’ but no ”homophoby”?? well…
There a name to ”homophoby”, is low intelligence. I choice to cure ignorance and low intelligence than non-majority and non-potentially procreative sexual behavior. Will go to cure masturbation and oral sex!!!
Conservative people could very cold. There a moral imperative here that do not relate only to homossexual masculine population but for all of us, are REAL diversity, free will (half of time it is true) and real knowledge about the complexity of life.

    http://www.humansexualevolution.com/instinct-and-intelligence.htm

I believe that neuroscience will not have all answers to human behavior or some answers aren’t related to genes, natural, cultural or sexual selection, not exclusive’ necessarily.
All of us obviously have ”feminine” and ”masculine” genes, but the frequence of these distribution could naturally to varies. My theory, extreme homossexuals could have more feminine genes that in greater frequence can emulate a infection because can there a limit to these frequence of feminine genes in men.
Schizophrenia could be caused by infection but before to you ”cure” this ”madness” you need understand the social context and the kind of environment that this people are live.

    it is interesting.

The ideia of vaccine to cure homossexuality is absolutely morally wrong because this behavior is only a other types of behavior of human beings. Is morally correct to cure the psychopathy because it make greater ill to human societies. I’m also against the abortion of down kids, i’m against the abortion because you have kill a being without capacity to choice. Unfortunatelly some down people born by low moralquality mothers. I`m favor to sterilisation of theses low quality mothers that abort a cold blood your kids with down syndrome. Should there GOOD women that are not any problem to love this people.
Other thing, i think on vaccines, what is it?
    Are dead virus. Oooooohhh, interesting
Genes are “like“ bacterias and virus but it are ”domesticated” and cooperative (or dead like vaccines) organisms. We are the accumulation of archaic patogens, aka genes, we are inside us the geological history of earth and all others animals in many degrees.

  5. Seems as if the link to the story about male homosex must be in reference to the gay brothers linkage study at Northwestern done by Alan Sanders. Bailey is part of that team. For the last 10 years or so they recruited gay brothers for genetic testing. Here’s the recruiting website: http://www.gaybros.com/index.html

Their goal was to get 1000 pairs of gay brothers in order to see if the Hamer results could be verified or finally put to bed.

They must finally be done. That link says the work is not yet published, but it seems from the write up they don’t know much more than they knew before. It sounds as if there’s a weak link on Xq28 and another weak one on chromosome 8. If they could identify what does what, they could get some clues, perhaps, to what Cochran claims, that a pathogen is at work. Perhaps, since it appears most of their subjects who are gay don’t show a linkage to those areas while some do, it sounds more and more likely that a particular pathogen might have an easier time of making the ghey in some while that genotypic characteristic need not be present in others, or….whatever. I agree with you Jayman.

I’ll be interested in your analysis and Cochran’s of the paper when it’s out. Sounds like it came up pretty empty, but maybe someone can ferret out a clue.

    @szopeno,
I’m familiar to this possibility, if really it to be true, so? The idea of cure based specially if cause extremely direct danger to health like Malaria. Look, what do you think what is falciform genes?? ”They” are exactly what the vaccine are, cooperative bacterias. We have, obviously bacterias and virus our whole body, all the time. If some pathogens could change huge our behavior, so i think that all of types of human behavior are influenced by cooperative pathogens or ”genes”. Autism could be caused by infection. And so, will go ”cure” autism? Will turn very smart people in ”normal” people taht we see all the time?? Are not a problem with high functioning autistic people, are a problem with society that do not could treat them with respect and understand our idiosyncrasy. Mutations ARE infections and recessive mutations are clearly infections. Our mental energy are caused by the complex interaction among our particular bacterias army and other components. All of us have pathogenes, 95% of people have herpes virus.
No only homossexual people. I find very suspect that Cochran and Jayman to say ” ONLY homosseuxalism are caused by pathogens” when i discovery one work talking about ”the prevalence of pathogen and cultural conformity”. In the place where there less non-conformity there a prevalence of pathogens.
I think if there many degrees of masculinity and feminility, the same way, many degrees of empathy ( extreme empathy= williams syndrome and other extreme= classical autism). More feminine men (but not necessarily gay) tend to have higher iq than masculine men. Well, i see this everywhere, “macho man“ are anti-intelectual and half of ”macho man” with higher iq are psychopath and useless to make better society.
Is morally wrong yes because the fathers tend to be stupid. Eg, if my father could choice my personality in mom utero he decides make me religious and cultural conformed. Fathers with bio-engineering turn their kids in expression of their inconscient egos (social status).
You do not gift to ”average joey” to choice that what is the better. We talking about the way that preserve the quintessence that is to be human.
Very important decisions do not could to be gift to normal people to decide what is that the better.
To gay people that believe who are sick should to gift the choice of heterossexualization but when the society will to be intelectual able to debate this. Kids and fetus are responsiblity of fathers but if the fathers are not intelectual able to it, do not should decide by own self.

They are not the right of make this. I explain to Zopeno, fathers are dumber. If your father decide bio-change you, i believe that he transform you in a non-quasi-aspie girl and ‘raaaaycist’ dissident. I do not think that your dad are dumb, when i tell ”dumb”, do not refere about technical intelect but other kinds of stupidity. Many stronger moral questions will appears near future about the transhumanism. I like the possibility that improve the humanity, but i think if it could change radically our essence forever and turn us like perfect robots. Would be terrible!!! What do you think???

Many gay people tend to have emotional problems, like autistics, but it do is not the signal of this ”ill” codintion, but the over reaction of this hyper sensitive people about the treatment by society. Think how you react if normal people treat you with lack of education and respect or make archaci jokes about your person. Think when people want prohibit you to think like human biodiversity.
The difficult to socialization in autistic people are directly related with the intelectual obsessions. Whithout this ”problem” , autistic would be not very specializaed smart, you do not be…
To say ”kids are just our genetic investments” is like think like a inconscient thinking. Is accept the infanticide in amerindians tribes of south american.

The Genetic Atlas of Human Admixture History sure looks interesting though im a bit concerned about their sampling methods. 4 individuals in Germany vs 28 on Sardinia!
Anyway for Northern italy (12 individuals) the suggested admixture is fascinating – English (36.2%) and Welsh (12.1%). Gallia Cisalpina indeed!

BTW here in SC you would address a woman with the first name of H as miss H regardless of her marital status. Its just the old way ;)

“I believe that neuroscience will not have all answers to human behavior or some answers aren’t related to genes, natural, cultural or sexual selection, not exclusive’ necessarily.”

All human behavior has causes, just like every phenomenon in the universe. Those causes must be (broadly) genes and environment. Of course, with “environment” being an umbrella term that includes developmental stochasticity, the situation at the moment, pathogens, toxins, adequate nutrition, etc.

And of course you’d be wrong if you conclude that behaviors aren’t related to genes (which are affected by natural, cultural, and sexual selection), because All Human Behavioral Traits are Heritable. Genes influence all aspects of humanity to some degree. This is a simple fact.

“The ideia of vaccine to cure homossexuality is absolutely morally wrong because this behavior is only a other types of behavior of human beings.”

Regardless of what you or I think of the morality of a vaccine (which I think is perfectly moral), the fact of the matter remains that if people were aware of the consequences of a gay germ, and such a vaccine were available, you can be dang sure people are going to want it for their children.

“I find very suspect that Cochran and Jayman to say ‘ ONLY homosseuxalism are caused by pathogens’ when i discovery one work talking about ‘the prevalence of pathogen and cultural conformity’.

You should see my Twitter stream (here, here, here, here, and here)

“To gay people that believe who are sick should to gift the choice of heterossexualization but when the society will to be intelectual able to debate this.”

Many gays have themselves sought a “cure”. But, we’re not talking about that, a vaccine would prevent children from becoming gay in the first place, not have any impact on any man who’s already homosexual.

Are you kidding me? Not if I give the vaccine to my child or to myself (the mother) if I am the carrier of said pathogen.”

It’s natural to want your children to grow up and mate and bear their own kids, my grandkids. If it’s a pathogen causing it, that pathogen interfers with my kids’ ability to target and attract a suitable mate.

    jeeeez.

  24. Try to end up with a certain type of subjective behavior because it does not satisfy you, or because you have personal reasons to dislike , is not moral nor on Mars nor in Indochina .
Yes , I ‘m fully aware that many homosexuals have dysfunctional behavior , but this is not a segregated them characteristic, since it is present in all population groups . So when you see a greater presence of delinquency among this segment does not necessarily mean that homosexual behavior lead to dysfunctionality , but that impulsivity combined with low intelligence or with psychopathic traits , will undoubtedly result in this state of things . If Homosexuality is far from genetics I find it hard that you get away with it , for the good of humanity . I have a suggestion that might actually exist a relationship between impulsivity and infection by non- human pathogens , not only between homosexuality .
We live in a world where discussing certain behaviors became the norm when we should blush to our cheeks. We are all the time judging and discussing what a minority group of people do in their private lives . This is disgusting . I think then we should discuss details of other paraphilias , what do you think ?
The current homosexual movement , is fully connected with liberalism and I understand the animosity that most of you who are conservative , have the group . But definitely can not judge everyone in the group . I am rather in favor of eliminating all dysfunctional behaviors , from extreme impulsiveness of a part of the homosexual population to the anti -intellectual stupidity of much of the male population , are there pathogens acting in this second case as well? I do not doubt it.

The important issue is to understand how is the mechanism of mutation in humans and how it can be selected . I have a hunch that the mutations are infections that arise when initially can cause disease or alter human behavior . Homosexuality as autism are subjective traces of complex phenotypes of behavior and cognitive, prior to the selection process that resulted in the predominance of phenotypic behavior found universally among humans and with relatively low variability style .
When a mutation is in an early state of inoculation it will tend to act as a disease or as a change in behavior. According to the selection that happens , those with natural immune defense or another favorable feature will survive, but it seems, the selection processes of the past has been very unstable and there is not a homogeneous chain selection, since each or two to three generations , more than half of previously selected genes were lost .
I suggested that there must be other reasons why homosexuality continue to exist among us and that they can be advantageous . Starting from the complex idea that women are more evolved and neotenics men , I believe that the whole process of increased intelligence is through the feminization of mankind , when man eliminates , not through selective processes common ( based on the idea that masculine traits are dominant ) but ownership of mutations such as autism , which is basically a combination of complex interaction between pathogens and biological recessionary conditions . Looks like autism , atheism and homosexuality, may have common origins and mechanisms .
The idea that homosexuality is maladaptive is a very simplistic and commodious way of seeing things . Say that there is an advantage , despite the likely pathogenic process is not knowing how the mechanism works of mutations . Believe that any form of behavior that is not in your core nature , harmful to society , is doing exactly the same thing that totalitarian liberals are doing . Even psychopathy itself may have many traits that when not combined , can be very useful to us . The idea of utility should also be abolished previously , assuming that in human societies there is a huge amount of activities that do not directly useful .

You forgot to mention society as an important factor for people to engage in different behaviors. I definitely do not believe that something as complex as human behavior can be triggered or modified only by the presence of pathogens, ignoring the fact that our genes are basically like pathogens. As I said, starting from the idea that Africans are more prone to infections and tend to be more impulsive than other people, I believe, not the same pathogens, but the same mechanism can happen with them.

SOME degree.I do not doubt that. You already know that I do not believe in the idea of blank paper. But I believe that some traits are predominantly epigenetic. You know that in the past the majority of gay men were forced to marry and have children. Nowadays it would be interesting to see how many men would engage in some sort of homosexual behavior. I think it’s much bigger than we think.
The main point of all this is that you are letting out or avoid argue is that all our behavior is also derived from the presence of pathogens, based on the idea that genes are pathogen itself, so when you make a point of emphasizing only the homosexuality (schizophrenia too?) does not give me an honest idea to discuss it. His proposal vaccine in idiocracy world we live in is absurd. The brave new world can not be with these types of people who predominate in our nations.

Jaiman@ ”Regardless of what you or I think of the morality of a vaccine (which I think is perfectly moral), the fact of the matter remains that if people were aware of the consequences of a gay germ, and such a vaccine were available, you can be dang sure people are going to want it for their children.”

I’ve discussed this before with Hbdchick Zopeno and we could not doubt the choice for ordinary people . As I said also , any parent unconsciously believe that your child is your investment . This type of behavior is archaic , the child is an individual who has willingly . If ordinary people can barely understand simple statistical averages , how do you think they would react if they found out that homosexual behavior is also a result of pathogens ?
If we were waiting for our parents we would be going to church every Sunday and thinking about football and beer. Smart parents will let their children be what they want . Before shouting to the four corners of the world that there is a vaccine against homosexuality , you should first observed in tolerant societies , the emotional problems of them fell , it appears that schizophrenics show a marked improvement in behavior when , in non – stigmatizing societies . And most importantly , you will need to greatly increase the intellect of these populations , as a result , there is no chance of that now contecer . If this happens , you will do so for scientific recognition without thinking of the consequences likely unprecedented that this may cause to our realm of stupidity.

Jayman@ ”Many gays have themselves sought a “cure”. But, we’re not talking about that, a vaccine would prevent children from becoming gay in the first place, not have any impact on any man who’s already homosexual.”

I think that is hypocrite you scream ” i want to think and act of way that i want” and believe of good faith that same people accused you to be racist or anything hbd stuff will prudent about their actions when discovery that they can change their kids of way want.

His speech is very dubious, you use that as justification to all traits are genetic and therefore homosexuality must be prevented for the sake of the nation and the sensitivity (which does not exist) of poor parents.
    I will read yor twitter….

It is u only have more children. Chinese one-child policy to the contrary. If you have a gay or with few chances for mating son, you could appeal to the state to have one or could use screening genes to have a super rich big boy, what do you think? You could combine their genes with the genes of his wife to corroborate in a phenotype that is appropriate for him. But that would not evolutionary. The evolution of the human species has occurred mainly through their ability to empathize and this relates particularly with respect to their ability to have an offspring so she can be whatever you want and support for this. Liberals are just the evolution of this long process of discontinuity but maintenance of the most advantageous traits, and it is clear that empathy is one of them.
The greatest asset of human, was precisely the tolerance for different. Autism and autistic types (Nerds) has given outstanding contribution in technology and specialized science. All extreme types have made great contributions to the rest of humanity. Believe that a type of behavior, read, in part artificially manufactured or accumulated in a batch concept as homosexuality, autism, etc. is unnatural or is sick, by means of false or non-objective correlations normative interpretations like rewinding until age medieval.

  27. @hbd chick – “are you on twitter? you should be on twitter!”

Yes and no. I have a twitter persona, but it primarily exists to promote my (fantasy and sci-fi) art and my fiction writing and I’m not interested in necessarily marrying that with my blog right now. Plus, it’s not much fun to connect with me on twitter because I don’t have a smart phone so I see less than 1% of what goes on and respond to things sometimes days later.
