“29 Oct 12

“Over 50,000 asylum seekers are expected to come to Sweden next year, according to the latest prognosis from the Swedish Migration Board (Migrationsverket), pushing the country’s capacity past its limits….”

  1. Haha, they aren’t even capable of seeing a connection between these two things. One cannot allow mere economics to intrude upon the perfect universe of superheroic moral autonomy.

By the way, is there any breeding-related explanation for Finns being less xeno-philic than other Scandis?

heh. yeah — gotta show off how moral you are! *facepalm*

dunno! i’ll have to check. i’ve got some finnish mating pattern articles lying around here somewhere … and i did have a glance at one or two of them a long time ago, and i think (think) that the broad pattern is greater inbreeding/endogamous marriages amongst the finns in finland, but more outbreeding amongst the swedes in finland — but don’t quote me on that. i might be remembering it wrong….

  3. Well the Finns have been placed outside the Hajnal line, so maybe the overly altruistic traits that emerged in Western Europe never took off there…

  4. The Swedes will pay to relocate their own people to foreign countries, but compensating immigrants to leave the country is “extreme”?

  5. The Swedes are an overrated people, who are now seeing the rent come due on all their moral posturing over the last 100 years. However, they should be given credit for at least trying to live up to their ideals. Not everyone does.

They have made as good a run as anyone at making socialism work, but their advantages are evaporating and it’s getting more difficult.
    1. 25% of the population, heavily weighted to the poorest farmers, emigrated 100-150 years ago – and suddenly after that socialism looked like a good idea.
    2. It’s stunningly homogeneous – as are the populations of most European countries who puff themselves up about how well they share. 10th cousins, all of ’em.
    3. Remaining neutral in expensive wars (however morally necessary) leaves lots left over to invest in new equipment around oh, 1946 or so. Not only shipping, but names like “Volvo” and Saab” may come to mind.
    4. A cultural tradition of hard work. It’s to their credit, but it does help that socialism thing survive.
    5. In dealing with other countries, they are as capitalist as the Anglosphere. They share with each other, not the world.

Now they have lots of immigrants who don’t look like them, but they intend to treat them the same as the other Swedes if it kills them. You have to admire their ability to pony up, if not their original wisdom. I hope they make it. I really do. It would be good to show that we can overrule and unlearn natural prejudices if we just paint ourselves into a corner and try hard enough. But the crime statistics of Malmo, and the refusal of original Swedes to face that squarely, suggests otherwise.

  6. The refugees are not being brought there to work, they are brought there for Christian/Humanist moral reasons. The Swedes will not (and are not supposed to) ask whether helping these foreigners is good or bad for Swedish quality of life. Under the moral code of these religions you are supposed to give first without worrying how you can meet your own needs after.

  7. i think you are pre-suppsong things which are not stated. It is possible, for isntance, that the 50k people ex/deported to Norway are the exact same 50k people brought into Sweden. Ie the nat’l government has a suicide-by-islam policy that local gov’t mediates by getting rid of them abroad.

perhaps, but somehow i don’t think so. the place where this is happening — söderhamn — looks to be pretty provincial (not that there’s anything wrong with that!), so i would bet that, even if they do have some immigrants there who are taking advantage of this promotion, there’s prolly an equal, if not greater, number of natives heading to neighboring norway.

and even if your scenario was correct, it STILL wouldn’t make any sense to import more people when you’ve got an unemployment problem! why shuffle in more people from syria/somalia/wherever to stockholm when you can just shuffle in some people from söderhamn? would seem more cost effective/easier to me.
