airplanes and tropical diseases is no joke, though. i flew on air india once and when we landed in the u.s., the staff fumigated the plane just before they opened the doors to let us off, assuring us that there was nothing toxic (DDT!!) in what they were spraying all around us. they didn’t explain, but i presumed it was to kill off any stowaway mosquitoes/other winged insects.

*sigh* yeah, bittles has been on this kick for a while. he knows a lot — a LOT — about inbreeding and congential problems and has concluded that there’s not much of a problem in marrying close cousins. maybe he’s right, i dunno. but he hasn’t thought about it from a social p.o.v. — or if he has, i’ve never seen him talk about it anywhere.
